On behalf of the World Scout Jamboree Unit leadership team, I would like to thank you in advance for your offers of help, and formally invite you to come along to Woodhouse Park on Saturday 13th March 2010.
The day will start promptly at 09:00 with a quick briefing on how the day is going to be laid out, the prospective unit members will arrive at 09:30 and hopefully the initial sessions will start at 10:00.
The initial part of the day will focus on the individuals, seeing what skills and attributes they can bring to the units, following lunchtime the individuals will be grouped and assessed on how well they work together as part of a team, the day will end about 17:00 with a campfire.
During the day the Young people will be assessed on the above by yourselves whilst they are taking part on the activities, then after everybody else has gone home the unit leaders will get together and put together a final number for the prospective unit member and return them to the their DC’s for them to make their districts final call.
What we are looking for from yourselves is assistance in making the day a unique and varied experience, that will be overall an enjoyable occasion irrespective of the individuals final outcome.
To that end I need to know from yourselves (by the end of February) where you would be best placed to assist us, we have the following categories/skills that we need help with:
1. Pioneering
2. Arts and crafts
3. Administration
4. Camping skills
5. First aid
6. Archery
7. Physical games
8. Drama/performing
9. Catering – tea/coffee etc.
Don’t worry if you don’t feel that you have any of the specific skills mentioned above, I am more than sure that we will be able to utilise some of your other Scouting skills during the day.
Due to the response already received from the prospective members that have registered, we are still looking for further assistance from other members of the Scouting County, so if you have anybody else that you may be able to send our way we would be most appreciative of their assistance – We are looking for in the region of an additional twenty further volunteers to those we have already had register their interest.
Finally due to the sheer numbers involved, I ‘m afraid that we cannot supply lunch, so can we ask that you provide a pack lunch and we will provide the drinks during the day. In addition please be prepared for the possible climatic conditions associated with this time of the year, the day will go ahead whatever the weather.
Can I again thank you on behalf of the WSJ unit Leaders for giving up yet another Saturday in your already busy lives, but I am sure that it will be an enjoyable if not long day!
Yours in Scouting
