Hi all,

At the recent GSLs meeting one thing which was brought up was that it would be helpful to have some guidelines outlining when activity notifications ARE and ARE NOT required.

These details are below. I have issued this in a memo to all GSLs and ADCs today which they will send round in due course.

This should clearly define when an activity notification form is required to be completed and is effective immediately.

I think the guidleines are clear, but if in doubt about a specific scenario or activity, submitting the online activity notification form is the safest option - as this ensures you have covered yourself for the activity, followed all possible procedures and also that your insurance will be valid.

I hope this helps clarify the situation.

The In Touch System of communication for Nights Away events and activities is now being used in the Brunel Scout District

Whenever any activity or event is run within Scouting it is a requirement that an In Touch system of communication is in place (POR 9.3). This is to ensure; everyone involved is aware of how communication will take place between Leaders, Adults, Young People at the event and those not on the event. There needs to be details of who is present on the event should anything go wrong and how comunication will be managed in the event of an emergency.

The procedures put in place to ensure this are likely to vary for different types of events due to the differing circumstances and needs.

Below is a fact sheet and presentation to support Leadership teams with setting up their In Touch Systems.

It’s the camping season again and it great to see so many of you going for your Nights Away camping permits. Can we just ask that you give Margaret our Night Away Adviser plenty of notice of you assessment camp and understand that Margaret and the other Nights Away advisers can only travel a reasonable distance to assess your camp in a day.
Thank you – Mark, see note from Margaret below.

Any adult wanting to run a camp / nights away event for young people must have a night's away permit. There must be one nights away permit holder in the area of each camp / nights away event. To get a nights away permit you need to have your camping skills assessed by a nights away adviser.

Margaret Exley is the Brunel Scout District Nights Away adviser and ideally the first person that you will need to speak to. If Margaret is unable to help there are other night's away advisers in the Brunel District that can help you, see the Brunel directory for their details. Any problems speak to the District Commissioner.
