19/03/2008 : Rickard Shield 2008
The weather was described as the "worst ever" for the Rickard Shield. Despite this Northwinds not only managed to finish (many did not finish at all) as the highest placed team from Brunel District but came seventh overall in the whole of the county!
The route was a figure of eight with the base camp near Goblin Coombe at the centre. 23 teams of Explorers (and some Ranger Guides) from all over Avon were entered and got completely drenched in the rain which continued without a break.
Northwinds entered a team ranging from those who had been in the competition before to complete beginners. As a team they had to navigate at night (and in torrential rain) around a course of approximately 19km, do challenges along the way and answer questions as they went.

Northwinds scored a total of 217 points and finished 7th overall.
