Promoting the development of young people in the Bristol area

Thank you to all everyone that helped to support this event. Just over 40 young People and 20 adults were there, playing games, being coached cricket skills by the club and watching what turned out to be an exciting match.

During the day our presents at the match was covered on BBC radio Bristol and Sky Sports. Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers also appeared live on Sky sports as they formed the guard of honour at the start of the first and second halves of the match.

Thanks you to the 1st Bristol Muslim, 63rd Bristol Scout groups and Fromeside Explorer Scout Unit.

The final details for the Cricket match promotional event on Wednesday

Times

We will be there from 2.30pm on to set up. The cricket match starts at 4.10pm. You can arrive at anytime, but it will be good to have a good number of young people and adults there before the match starts. The flood lit cricket match will finish at 10pm

Cost
The cost normally to get in to the cricket matches is £18 for adults and £9 for children, but entrée for us on the day will be free. To get in for free young people will need wear there uniform and hand in a voucher on the gate. Vouchers are available to be printed from the Avon Scouts web site the Brunel Scout District web site or by click on this link www.avonscouts.org.uk/cricket.pdf We will also have an adult on the gate with a supply of vouches just in case. Adults will need a ticket. The club is going to supply me with a number of free adult tickets, let me know your coming and I will get a free ticket for you. It adults have uniform can you please wear it as we what to maximise our presents at the event to publicise Scouting. I will need to know by Tuesday 26th August. Around the ground there will be places to buy food and drink so it may me usefull to bring some money in case you get tempted. Any problems getting in on the day give me a call on 07789 621 323

What we are going to do

During the afternoon we will be promoting Scouting in a number of ways. Showing some of the Scouting activities we do in static displays and demonstrating some of Scouting activities in action, with young people playing some of our games near our tent. Through the cricket club we will also be forming a part of the guard of honour for when the players come out with the clubs ball boys. There is also possibilities of being caught on sky television who are covering the match.

b]Publicity Opportunity - Appear on Sky TV![/b]

On Wednesday 27th August Gloucestershire Cricket Club will be a hosting a floodlight 40 Over cricket match against Middlesex which will be live on Sky TV. The match will be played at the Gloucestershire Cricket Club home ground on Nevil Road in Horfield.

Over the last few months we have been talking to key people at the club about us using this event to promote Scouting in the area. It has now been agreed that we can use an area on the edge of the cricket pitch to put up a display and promote Scouting.


Other arrangements also made are:-
- Club members to take young people on a tour around the ground while the match is going on.
- To visit the clubs education centre.
- Interviews with cricket players who have been in Scouting on Sky television
- Possible interviews on Sky television with Scouts.
- Use Scouts as a guard of honour when the cricketers come out.
- To have promotional pictures taken before the match.
- Free entry to the see the match

Details

The match will be for one afternoon and evening only on Wednesday 27th August 2008.

The match starts at about 4pm and finishes typically at 10-10.30pm.

We are able to go in at 1pm to set up.

What we need

- Adults and young people to come, show and talk to people passing by what we are doing in Scouting.
- Help in planning and setting up a display. We have been looking at putting up a party type tent, using the power supply there to show photo and videos clips, play games and what ever else we can use to promote what we do in Scouting.
